Chateau Montelena Winery

1429 Tubbs Ln, Calistoga CA 94515

Established in 1882 by California entrepreneur Alfred Tubbs, the modern-day Chateau Montelena Winery has been owned and operated by the Barrett family since 1972.  In 1976, Chateau Montelena put California at the forefront of the wine world when their Chardonnay took top honors at the now-famous Paris Tasting event, as chronicled in the movie Bottle Shock

  • Napa Valley Chardonnay 2011

The wine has a wonderfull fullness and creaminess without being heavy.

  • Potter Valley Riesling 2010

Bright, clear, pale gold in color, this Riesling opens with rich peach and cut apple aromas. Soft and round entry on the palate with great weight and acid balance, this wine offers juicy layers of apricot and white peach flavors, all rounded out with a long rich finish of spiced pear tart.

  • Estate Zinfandel 2011

The nose is rich with barrel spice and toast notes reminiscent of rustic bread fresh from a wood-fired oven along with bright red briar-berry, cedar, anise, and a hint of tobacco.

  • Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

The nose opens with big, ripe, red fruits - particularly raspberry and red currant - before moving into layers of barrel spice, anise, and warm cedar.

  • Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Notes of blackberry solicit memories of hot summer afternoons while clove, allspice, vanilla, and hints of cocoa tease with thoughts of baked goodies. Emerging from these layers is a core of brandied cherries, light oak, and a hint of anise.
